Vickie Fremont brings her art to Harare

Belatedly, a post about Vickie Fremont's exhibition at HIFA in Harare, Zimbabwe. This exhibition took place from May 1 to May 6, 2018, under the title “Birds of Freedom”, as part of the 18th edition of the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), which will run under the theme “We Count”. Vickie Frémont , as we know from various articles and blog posts, "has been conducting workshops around the world, using a hands-on approach for the transformation of rejects or trash into useful everyday objects. Her workshops... take place in schools, community centers, universities, and even in commercial malls. They include lectures on the destructive effects that trash of every kind has on the environment and on climate change. She has conducted her workshops using recycled materials at The Fashion Institute of Technology, Vickie Fremont at HIFA The Bank Street School for Children, The Henry Street Settlement in New York City,...

Vickie Frémont: Return to Peru!

Article about Vickie's program in Peruvian media Vickie Frémont was invited to travel to Peru in the Fall of 2011 by the  Alliance Française  (French Cultural Association), to teach in various Peruvian cities how to create art from recycled items, or even trash. It was a whirlwind trip, and so well-received that she has been once again invited, for the Month of the Environment. She will be traveling  to  Chiclayo, Trujillo, Arequipa, Iquitos, Huancayo and Cusco, and also will teach  a short program in two universities, in Arequipa and Trujillo. Vickie Frémont, New York - Update

Since the  October  2010 post about Vickie Frémont, jewelry designer and recycling artist of Cameroonian descent, much has happened. The blog post caught the attention of Columbia's Alliance Fran ç aise , which took interest in her recycling work, as a sustainability conference was being hosted in Bogota; she has been invited for a residency in Peru in the fall. In the meantime, she exhibited at several fairs, including the Bastille Festival in New York City in July. In the meantime, here are a few photos of her jewelry, modeled by Myriam Maxo , a designer herself, of Caribbean descent.
